In addition to the gunfire shots, a mortar shell from the Syrian side of the Golan also landed in Israeli territory.
There were no reports of injury to the Israeli side.
The mortar shell was believed to have be spill over from fighting between Syrian rebel groups and the country’s army, which has been engaged in a bloody civil war over the last five years.
Field workers and residents were told to evacuate the area near the border until calm can be restored.
In response, the IDF returned fire from the direction of the assault. In remains unclear if anyone was wounded or any damage was inflicted following the event.
Earlier this month, a mortar landed in the Golan Heights following accidental spillover from internal fighting between factions in the Syrian civil war.
No injuries or damage were reported in the attack on November 9, 2016 as well.
Israel holds the Syrian government responsible for any hostile activities emanating from its territory.
